My Origin, As I Understand It

For most of my life, I was told that I was born in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. That is what appears on my Malaysian birth certificate, and that is the version of events that has followed me in official records. Over time, however, parts of that story stopped making sense.

There were inconsistencies in early medical records, gaps in what I had been told, and details that did not align with what would typically be expected for someone born and processed locally from day one. Later on, personal disclosures and additional context from people connected to my family began to point toward a different version of events.

Based on what I have been told, what I have been able to verify for myself, and what I have pieced together over time, the most coherent account is this: I was likely born in Changsha, in Hunan, China, in October 2001. Within days of my birth, I was brought to Malaysia and placed into the family that has raised me ever since.

My biological father was Malaysian. He was present in Malaysia at the time, and I was told that he was with my biological mother at a clinic in Bangsar shortly after my arrival, where she completed a brief postpartum recovery period before returning to her studies.

Some of the individuals who were directly involved, including the doctor who handled the case, and my biological father, have since passed away. As a result, not every detail can be independently verified, and there are parts of this story that I may never be able to fully confirm.

What I can say with certainty is this:

I was raised in Malaysia from the earliest days of my life. The family who took me in are the only parents I have ever known. They are the ones who brought me up, supported me, and loved me. The place listed on my birth certificate reflects my legal registration. The account above reflects my current understanding of my biological origins.

Both can exist at the same time. And at the end of all of this, the most important truth has never changed:

I know who raised me. I know I am loved.
